| Post subject: | BLOGGERS RESPONSE FOR PREVENTING HACKINGS |
* Download AdAware and Spybot and run searches for trojans or keyloggers that might be on your system. These devices send your user ID and password to others who can then misuse them. While you're at it, Google "free spyware checker" or "free anti-spyware" and see if any others are out there - I actually run both AdAware and Spybot every single week, and they both catch different things. * If you don't use antivirus GET IT AS WELL. I like AVG Antivirus - a freeware application. It's protected my PCs for years and years. If you're not also behind a hardware firewall (any basic internet router such as a Linksys box has one pre-loaded) then you really should be as well. Windows Firewall is NOT up to the task in most cases... * Choose a strong password ALWAYS - use a mixture of letters and numbers and caps/lower case. * Change your password as often as you can - I recommend monthly or bi-monthly. * I'm not sure if Blogger.com provides a backup service but that would be helpful if they do - does anyone know? At least that way you should, in theory, be able to restore an older version of the blog after you change all the login info. Given the likelihood of hacks, I'd think that they do SOME level of backup and can restore an older version form before the hack once they validate your identity. Also Cadmonkey mentioned that he did not think they could have *guessed his password*. Unfortunately they dont have to if your connected directly to a broadband modem or if any of these keyloggers/spyware infiltrate the computer your toast. The password structure I suggest is the same we us in the military. a good example would be P@5$w0rD simple to remember but very hard for any password cracker to to figure out. Unfortunately blogger does not back up for you but performing a weekly back up by following the instructions located at this link http://help.blogger.com/bin/answer.py?h ... swer=41447 |
