oh why...do people play AK like AA?

example. I just sat at cash table. I'm fully loaded and pick up QQ in the sb. UTG player raises, and it folds to me and i re-pop 4bets. He is also fully loaded and pushes over the top of me. I think for a while, call and he flips AK. Of course I get outdrawn, which I don't mind as I will take my edge pre-flop, but I don't understand his play.

This isn't a MTT or SnG where I kinda appreciate the need to build a stack. But in a cash game, how on earth do you re-re-pop with AK for your entire stack? Surely the play is just to call and see a flop. Being aggressive after a re-pop is only +EV if you have AA or KK imo.

I suppose my question is, would this be a big leak, or are people prepared to re-push for entire stack with AK? Even if this play doesn't make sense.

I mean its all read dependant. There no one way to play AK in a ring game. If the game is playing super loose with people having super wide ranges pre flop, then yes i would move in with AK. Pusing with AK in a ring game is like a semi bluff but is actually quite an advanced play. Saying that, in this situation he just overplayed it. You got it in good, what else can you do. And to you answer your question, always shoving with AK when your >100b is a big leak, yes.

I will 3 bet and get all in with Ak in a cash game as then people will pay you off when you have aces, kings and queens as people love to put you on AK and call with some faggoty pair. On my pokertracker with AK I am only slightly ahead but the way I play AK means that I make a lot more money on AA, KK and QQ.

Stakes?
The guy clearly overplayed AK there, but as tripz said, it's read dependant. There are situation where I repop with AK, but usualy I have a good reason to do this.

yeah stakes would be interesting to know. if its low its annoying but just normal. sad but true. If i am playing cash at the low limits i might get it in w AK knowing that people will shove much less than premium pairs.

keep the faith

Looks like he played it like a donk to me as he didn't have much fold equity against your 4 bet imo.An utg raise looks strong and you'd reraised that afterall, showing huge strength.

I suppose if you didn't have KK/AA which is unlikely considering his AK, then he probably thought (wrongly) there was at least a 20% chance of you both folding and a 50/50% chance of winning a showdown v a pair.
